About Ronnie Dowdy, Inc.
Ronnie Dowdy’s experience in the trucking industry began shortly after high
school in 1973 as an owner/operator. For ten years he worked as an
owner/operator driving and operating his own truck.
In
January of 1984, Ron and Sandra Dowdy incorporated Ronnie Dowdy, Inc. (RDI). RDI
started in the trucking business business with three tractor power units and trailers in a rented
office in Batesville, Arkansas. By 1987, RDI owned over 50 power units with a
fleet of trailers, and a terminal facility was built to service the trucking fleet. By 1992, RDI had expanded to 100 units. In August of 1994, RDI acquired a 25 acre
terminal trucking facility in Batesville, Arkansas, including a large shop and 10 acres of paved parking.
RDI is a totally temperature controlled truckload carrier with a fleet of 225
trucking trailers and 170 power units. The power units are a mix of company owned and
owner/operator units. Using Arkansas as a hub, the company seeks out high
volume, high density trucking traffic lanes that will enable the company to maximize the
utilization of its equipment. By using a triangle approach in its dispatch of
equipment, the trucking company can better control deadhead and improve efficiency of
trucking operations.
The primary commodity transported by RDI is food and food related products. Over
50% of our trucking business is derived from shipments either originating or terminating
in Arkansas, as we serve the U.S. from coast to coast.
